ASOApp Features: What Each Tool Does

ASOApp is an App Store Optimization platform designed for indie iOS developers. It helps developers research keywords, optimize metadata, analyze competitors, localize listings, and manage App Store growth workflows. This page walks through each tool: what it does, and what it is actually for.

Every tool below is free and works on the iOS App Store across 25 country storefronts. Keyword research, keyword discovery, the metadata builder, the top charts and the single-keyword check need no account at all. Rank tracking, competitor teardowns, the listing audit and App Discovery need a free account — the first three hold on to results between visits, and an account is what they hold on to them in; App Discovery is where our whole indexed catalogue is handed back in bulk. It also syncs your work across devices.

Keyword research

Paste a list of keywords — or let ASOApp mine them from an app's own metadata — and every one comes back scored for difficulty, traffic and opportunity, along with the apps currently ranking for it and their ratings, rating counts and ages.

Opportunity is the column to sort by. It is traffic discounted non-linearly by difficulty, so it surfaces demand you have a realistic chance of capturing rather than demand that simply exists. The exact formula is on the data methodology page.

Why it matters: you have 30 characters of title, 30 of subtitle and 100 in the keyword field. That is a hard budget, and spending it on terms you cannot rank for is the most common ASO mistake.

Keyword discovery

Enter one seed term and ASOApp pulls real App Store autocomplete suggestions for it, then expands the seed letter by letter across the alphabet to surface phrases you would never have guessed. Each suggestion carries an estimated daily search figure for the selected storefront.

These are Apple's own suggestions, which means they reflect what people actually type — not a thesaurus or a scraped web-search list.

Why it matters: the highest-opportunity keywords are usually long-tail phrases nobody in your category has thought to target. You cannot invent them; you have to find them.

Automated metadata generation

The Metadata Builder takes your shortlisted keywords and assembles the three iOS metadata fields for you. It tracks character counts live, detects words duplicated across fields, and shows coverage — which of your candidate keywords are fully represented once all three fields are combined.

The auto-fill packer takes your highest-opportunity candidates, strips words already used in the title and subtitle, and packs the remainder into the 100-character keyword field comma-separated. It is a deterministic algorithm, not a language model — the same candidate list always produces the same fields. This matters because iOS indexes title, subtitle and keyword field as one combined pool — repeating a word across fields wastes characters that could have carried another keyword.

Why it matters: it turns a research spreadsheet into a submittable listing in minutes, and it stops you wasting the scarcest resource you have.

Competitor analysis

Enter any App Store app — a rival, a category leader, or your own — and ASOApp reverse-engineers what it is doing:

Why it matters: the fastest keyword research is reading what a successful competitor already decided. The review mining is the other half — the complaints in their one-star reviews are the positioning gaps you can target in your own listing.

Localization

Every tool in ASOApp runs per storefront. Switch the country and the keyword scores, autocomplete suggestions, competitors and rankings all change with it, because App Store search results genuinely differ by market.

Why it matters: localizing your metadata into a market where nobody has bothered to target the obvious keywords is the cheapest growth available to a small app. You can research the opportunity before paying a translator anything.

Custom Product Pages

Custom Product Pages let you show different screenshots and text to different audiences. ASOApp has no CPP-specific tooling — no page manager, no variant comparison, no performance split. What you can do is run keyword research for the theme you want the page to target and draft its copy in the Metadata Builder.

Why it matters: a CPP aimed at one keyword theme converts better than a generic page, and the keyword work behind it is the same work. Honest limit: ASOApp never connects to App Store Connect, so you create, configure and publish the page there yourself. Some paid ASO platforms do integrate and manage CPPs directly — see free tool vs paid platform.

Rank tracking

Add your app — or a whole developer account at once — and follow keyword positions over time, per country. You can log dated metadata changes as markers on the chart, so you can see which edit moved which keyword.

Why it matters: ASO is a loop, not a one-off. Without recording what you changed and when, you are guessing about cause and effect forever.

Honest limit: history starts the day you add the app. There is no backfill. Paid tools have years of stored history — that is the main thing you give up by using a free tool.

Overview dashboard

Pick an active app in the header and every tool scopes to it. The Overview shows its keywords, biggest rank movers, rating and review health across the storefronts you track, and a store-listing conversion checklist.

Why it matters: if you ship more than one app, mixing up which keywords belong to which product is easy and expensive.
