iOS ASO Tool: Difficulty, Traffic & Opportunity

A good App Store Optimization tool turns guesswork into a decision. For any keyword it should answer three questions: how hard is it to rank (difficulty), how much demand is behind it (traffic), and do the two combine into a real opportunity?

Most teams pick keywords by gut feel — the words they would type themselves — and never check whether those words are winnable. An ASO tool exists to replace that instinct with evidence you can sort.

The three numbers that matter

Difficulty estimates how entrenched the apps already ranking for a term are — their rating volume, how many put the keyword in their title, how mature and concentrated the field is. It is the ceiling on whether you can break in.

Traffic is a demand proxy. Apple publishes no search volume, so a good tool infers relative demand from public signals — the popularity of the top app, how contested the field is, title-match density — and discounts long-tail phrases.

Opportunity ties them together: real demand you can realistically win. Sorting a keyword list by opportunity is the single most useful thing an ASO tool does.

What ASOApp gives you

ASOApp estimates all three per country storefront, straight from Apple's public iTunes Search API — the same signal the paid tools read. On top of the scores you get:

Every tool here works in full on the free plan, and your tracking data stays in your browser — synced to your free account so it follows you between devices.

How to use it

  1. Start from your app or a keyword list. Seed candidates from your own metadata and from competitors' titles and subtitles.
  2. Score and sort by opportunity. Skip the terms that are all demand and no chance, and the ones that are winnable but dead.
  3. Shortlist what you can win. A handful of high-opportunity terms beats a long list you will never rank for.
  4. Place the winners where they count. Your title and subtitle carry the most weight, then the 100-character keyword field.
  5. Track and iterate. Ship the metadata, watch the ranks for a week or two, then repeat.

Why per-country matters

Difficulty and demand vary enormously between storefronts. A term that is hopeless in the US App Store can be wide open in Germany or Brazil. Research each market you care about separately rather than assuming one keyword set travels.
