Estimating App Downloads on iOS

Apple doesn't publish per-app download counts, so any 'downloads' figure is an estimate — useful for comparison, not accounting.

The best public proxy

Rating volume is the most accessible signal of scale: apps with far more ratings generally have far more installs. It's rough, but consistent enough to rank competitors by size.

Use it relatively

Don't quote an install number as fact. Use the proxy to tell a large incumbent from a small one when you weigh keyword difficulty.
